The patented side opening is made using an innovative injection moulding technique. The outward-opening stirrup arm helps release the foot in an emergency.

The opening of the force-activated locking and release mechanism is located one centimetre above the bench, ensuring that the foot cannot slip sideways and to prevent sand and dirt from delaying the arm's opening action in an emergency.
